Here We Go Again!

This week saw a return to our routine here in Nairobi after the change of participating in Farming God’s Way. Our days are marked by our lessons in Swahili, trips to the office, our trips to different locations to buy food for a couple of days and our interactions with those on our compound and on the street. There is very much a sense that we are in waiting, waiting on news of our residency permits coming through to enable us to take the next steps toward Tabora.

Just before Jesus’ ascension he spoke to his disciples and said: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptised with water, but in a few days you will be baptised with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 1:4b) The disciples’ response was to ask about whether this was going to be the time when the kingdom of Israel would be restored, to which Jesus replied that the times and dates were not for them to know. Instead Jesus commissioned them to be his witnesses throughout the world.

What I see happening here is that despite the amazement and excitement of the disciples at the resurrection of Jesus, despite the disciples’ trust in Jesus as Lord of all, the one who reigned supreme over death, was at an all-time high; when he asks them to wait for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, they want to know more. The disciples wanted to know what this waiting was going to mean for them as individuals and for the nation of Israel. It seems that waiting without knowing or understanding was difficult for the disciples. I understand the challenge. It seems that I can sit in this waiting space for only so long before I am once again wrestling with the wait. To know contentment in all circumstances is to trust that the Father has not forgotten us, or abandoned us. It is to trust that He knows what he is doing that he has a good plan in place and it is working according to his schedule. He is also at work in us in this place of waiting, growing our faith, trust and obedience. Please pray with us that we will seek him first as we wait and that we are able to put all else aside.

  1. Thanks guys, we love you too and miss you all! Just wish sometimes we didn’t have to revisit stuff…
Have a great week. keeping you in our prayers.

  2. We wait with you and pray with you and learn with you as you wait to see the next step of his good plan. We will be stopping to pray for you tonight at Life Group and will use this as the basis of prayer.
