Over the last couple of weeks things have been pretty busy. Despite being organised there were many things that could not be completed until we had moved out of our home and this turned out to be a longer process than we had imagined. There were times in the process where people needed to take precedence over the process.
One of our tasks was to determine which of our worldly goods we wanted to keep and what could be let go of.
A task of this nature is usually made easier if you know what you will require when you get to that future time and unpack but as we don’t know the timing of that let alone the circumstance of it there were few “guidelines” for making decisions about what to hold onto and what to let go of.
Another of our tasks was to pack a bag each of 23kgs and hand luggage of 7kgs that would enable us to live in another environment a world away from our current reality. What do you pack when you don’t have a lot of detail on where you are going nor what is available once you get there? I envy the apostle Paul who travelled with so much less than 30kgs….just his garments and tools of trade!
Then there was the news after we had finished putting things into long term storage that we could take a second bag! We then had to purchase some things to take with us and now are wondering how we will manage to move our luggage! I can see a photo coming of me like a stranded turtle, bag on my back and legs in the air!
But we have spoken only of the physical, the tasks. There have been other concurrent journeys occurring. There has been the emotional journey of farewelling family and friends, complicated by time constraints and physical distance amongst other things. On a spiritual level we have had to face changing plans and expectations and hold onto the knowledge that God got us over the mountain which faced us at the beginning of the year and seemed insurmountable, in His timing and in His way and that likewise through all that was still before us He is sovereign and His will, will prevail. His plans and timing are so much better than anything that we can come up with and through it all He is glorified and that is what life is about!
