Tuesday morning saw us sitting on our bags to get them to close before we lugged them down to the lobby and checked out. When we arrived at the airport we found that the airline was not prepared to let us fly as we had no official documentation of our work visa. We made contact with the AIM Australia office to find the director was out but we told them the situation and they said they would chase things for us. To cut a long story short there were a variety of phone calls made and emails sent before we finally were cleared by the airline manager to fly. From there on the trip was uneventful though very tiring.
We arrived in Namibia to a beautiful sunny day with a breeze blowing to keep us cool. Our team leader was not at the airport to meet us but we were not concerned. We took a taxi to our hotel and our initial impression of the country is that it is very flat, dry with little vegetation and the mountains rise suddenly from the ground. It is quite beautiful with a sense of space and light that reminds us of Blantyre in Malawi.
This morning we had a call from Zeka to say that there was a problem with the car, a flat tyre, that needed to be fixed before he could come and pick us up. We have appreciated the delay as it has enabled us to get online and send some messages. We are not sure what today holds nor when we will next have an internet connection….so until then.
